NOKTURNO
Nokturno is the first published photobook by Slovenian artist Andrej Lamut in which he approaches photography as a sequence of performances. The series is a result of his research on all performative acts that construct the final artwork as a physical object. Although at the first glance the photographs may seem documentary due to their candid appearance and overall feel, they are not – they are the complete opposite of straight photography. What generates meaning in these images are the physical performative actions made by the artist, that have an impact on visual and physical appearance of the artwork. The essence of performative photography is not what is depicted on an image, but which acts were executed in the process of creating it. Through them the final artwork itself becomes performative by leaving its impact on the viewer.
